Multidiscipline artist from 1974 -
I make artworks, paintings, drawings, prints, objects, sometimes performance, films and collaborations.
The works address ideas surrounding the nature of existence - the phenomenon of 'being'; the influences and reflections of contemporary culture and society, how our environment affects us and how we affect our environment.
I centre my subject matter upon the figure and narrative both imagined and recollected and it is through this rigour, this anchor that I find abstraction.
Within this abstraction a breakdown of logic occurs, causing me to flounder while I try to invent or find a different kind of meaning perhaps towards a new climate - of responding to landscape, communities, a merging of colour, form and light, and a totality of the image that one may try to identify as abstracted landscape or abstracted form, it really is neither, but all.
This is a wobbly place to be, a hard place logistically, I want the sense of uneasiness. I don't want to clarify things for the viewer, but to create a lens on the phenomenon of being, the nature of existence.
I see my work as playful, fun as well as deeply considered. Hopefully the works encourage the viewer to be open to consider, react and respond.
